Non-Hedonistic Motivations of the Entrepreneur (Schumpeter, 1934) – from Chapter 2
Non-Hedonistic Motivations of the Entrepreneur (Schumpeter, 1934) – from Chapter 2
1) “..the dream and the will to found a private kingdom, usually, though not necessarily, also a dynasty” (p93)
This is especially strong in people who have no other way to achieve social distinction.
2) “…the will to conquer: The impulse to fight, to prove oneself superior to others, to succeed for the sake, not of the fruits of success, but of success itself.” (p93)
Like a sport.
3) “..the joy of creating, of getting things done, or simply of exercising ones energy and ingenuity.” (p93)
This motive is the most anti-hedonist
Only in (1) is the motive the accumulation of property.
